Controversy in the US
Movement to Rename "Columbus Day" to "Indigenous Peoples' Day"
It has interesting like to me a very important document, because it is true before coming Colón there were persond there, but it discovered this site
ReplyDeleteIn the United States, October 12 is important as the date explorer Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. These discovery is commemorated on the second Monday of October

Jesús, I'd like to know your opinion on this topic, which deals not only with Columbus but with the indigenous people.
DeleteFrom my point of view, this day have to be celebrated because its a historical fact, when América was discovered for the first time.

I think that this well that celebrates both the day of the peoples Indígenas and the Columbus Day since the two are celebrated by the same one I throw historically.

Well in my opinion I think Colombus day (12th of October) has to be celebrate not because the bad things he (and the rest of europeans) did like enslaved many of the natives he encountered, which I don't support it at all.
ReplyDeleteI think we have to celebrate it because that discovered was very important and change Europeans lifes because of the new food, cultures, people...
I also think that it has to exist an indigenous people's day too.

I think that Colon's discovery of America was very importante yo spain and to rest of the world because that added geographic information , unknown cultures and new vegetables ...

I think that te "Columbus day" must be called "The native american day", becaus when Columbus arrived America, they started to kill native people, amd they had to leave all to defend themselves, and it was an heroic act.

I think a cool documentary.I think that Americans should also look for other dates to celebrate the day of the discovery of the indigenous people.
ReplyDeleteI think a documentary rather chulo.Yo I think that Americans should also look for other dates to celebrate the day of the discovery of the indigenous people.

ReplyDeleteI believe that on October 12 should be celebrated. The truth is that very bad things as enslaving people and exterminate tribes were made. But I think we have to feel proud that a Spanish have discovered America. I also believe that despite all the bad things thanks to this discovery the people of America evolved faster and realized inventions of European.

In my opinion we should try to forget the bad side of the discovery of America, all the pain it cost is part of the history and whitout that we wouldn't probably have America as a world potency.

It's true that the people from Europe do, they did good things and bag things. But in Spain we celebrate this day becouse it's the day of Spain, and many people think we celebrate this they for the arrived of the spanish people in America.

It is very interesting the Columbus' History and how Cristopher arrived in America. I love this day, and I am very happy to be Spanish and say " Colombus

¡Long live Spain and Long live Columbus!
I think 12 of October it's not a date to be proud of in Spain, because spaniards killed a lot of people and it was more like a survival for indigenous people, so I support them. But there are people that says that this day is for not forget the biggest genocide of humanity, and not for celebrate it.

I agree that european people celebrate Columbus' discovery because it was a very important event, but I don't agree that indigenous people celebrate this day, because its ironic that the native's descendents rejoice of a day which their ancestors' lives were massacred, put into slavery...in short, a day when their lives changed.
ReplyDeleteI'm not pretending to say that Columbus and his men were something like monsters, but i don't make sense of this celebration from the indigenous point of view: it's like putting a woman holding the oppression of her rights over the years, or a man lower-middle class that celebrates the wealth of the rich and they have always had more privileges.

It's a very interesting documental for us, but I think that it isn't bad to call 12 of October "Columbus day". He didn't want to discover his land, but he did it although he was seraching for India. Colombus did good for us. He isn't guilty of years later this population was ill-traeted, because he didn't do it on purpose.
ReplyDeleteI understand the position of Indigenous People, but Columbus isn't to blame.

From my point ,it depends because thanks to the discovery of America lots of crops such us corn ,were brought to Spain and as a result the health of our population become better. But on the other hand ,for the indigenous people this was the day that the Spaniards stold them their own territory .
